Dr Portera earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Wagner College. While a student there he ran track and developed a strong interest in nutrition and how it could affect the body’s performance.
As he was running one day he fell in a rabbit hole- (literally) which hurt his back and severely injured his leg. After seeing 3 orthopedic doctors, one of whom wanted to do surgery and the other two who told him nothing could be done, he reached out to a Chiropractor for care. Within 3 weeks of the initial visit, he was not only walking normally and without pain, but actually had gotten back into racing. It was his first experience with Chiropractic care and it peaked his interest in exploring this as a career instead of becoming an MD.
After graduating college Dr Portera took a position in the Neuro Science Dept of Rockefeller University to take the time to decide which path to follow. Ultimately he decided to persue a career that he felt was more in line with how he felt about healthcare and how he wanted to live his life. Dr Portera went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College in 1989, and has continued through the years with continuing education to stay current on all techniques and procedures to provide optimal care for his patients. He has been treating patients in private practice for over 30 years with a special interest that allows him to use his Chemistry background to help patients achieve optimal health bio-mechanically and nutritionally combined.
Dr Portera believes good health is all about Balance, whether it be structural, biochemical or both. His goal is to help patients achieve this balance through Chiropractic and Nutritional care.
